Lobster on the Wharf, a seafood restaurant and market, is an established operation committed to providing a quality product.

Lobster on the Wharf has been “the place for lobster” in Charlottetown since 1981. But there was a lobster pound on this site for many years before that. Gordon MacKinnon operated a business under his name for 17 years before selling it to Jim and Helen Larkin. Hence our incorporated name is MacKinnon’s Lobster Pound and the local habit is to refer to us as MacKinnon’s.

We, Jim and Helen Larkin, purchased the lobster pound in January of 1981 and began expanding the product line in 1983. Three years later, we began a seafood restaurant operation that has expanded to include 240 indoor and over 110 outdoor seats. For many years we have done business as Lobster on the Wharf. Whether heading to the waterfront for a delicious seafood meal, or purchasing lobster, mussels, clams, oysters, crab or fresh fillets from the seafood market to take home, this has been the spot to go in Charlottetown for over 25 years.

After Hurricane Juan (September of 2003) eroded the ground beneath the original building, we had to tear down everything but the parkside dining room constructed in 1995. Now the seafood market and the original “over the water” dining room have been totally rebuilt. Having been forced into construction, we decided to add on a second storey dining-room and outside deck, both with fabulous views of the heritage Hillsborough River and Charlottetown waterfront. Thus we have many years of business experience along with the advantage of a sparkling new building.

Our success has been built through 25 years of hard work and service. The seafood market meets the stringent requirements of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s food handling standards. Our kitchen and serving staff offer a superior dining experience in this unique waterfront location.
